So, it's been a while since I released the original Font Generator back in 2021, and honestly, I've been thinking for some time that it needed a proper update. The old Python/Tkinter version did its job, but let's face it - it was starting to show its age. 😅

I'm excited to share that I've been working on GB Studio Font Generator +, which is basically a complete rewrite from scratch. And this time around, I wanted to tackle some of the most requested features that people have been asking for. ✨

What's Different This Time?

First off, the biggest change is that you'll be able to run this directly in your browser. 🌐. I know some of you prefer desktop apps though, so I'm also looking into packaging it as a native application - we'll see how that goes. 🖥️

The interface got a major overhaul too. I went with a modern web stack (React and TypeScript if you're curious) which gave me a lot more flexibility with the UI. Everything feels snappier now!

New Features🚀

Variable Width Fonts: This was a big pain point before. Now the tool automatically detects where each character ends and adds those magenta markers for you. No more manual pixel editing in an image editor! 🎉 It's not perfect 100% of the time, but it gets you like 95% of the way there.

Codepage Support: A lot of you have been asking about support for Japanese characters, Cyrillic, and other non-Latin alphabets. Well, now you can create custom character mappings and export them as a JSON file alongside your font. 🌍 Just drop both files into your GB Studio project and you're good to go.

The grid overlay is still there (obviously), zoom levels work better now!
